Are closets for New Yorkers mini-versions of attics/basements and garages for homeowners? Do people use them effectively, moving things in and out on a daily or at least weekly basis, or do they end up just becoming vessels for extra crap that you don't need?

Also, I was wondering about the pros/cons of taking off closet doors. Is it better to see what's there, or hide the beast?

I'd also be curious to know what your suggestions for lighting are. To me that seems key, but we're not handy, and other than those cheap battery-operated presson lights, I've never figured out a lighting "solution".
